Branson girls varsity volleyball faced off against the Redwood Giants Oct. 9. In a game full of clutch saves, aces and massive spikes, the volleyball team dominated the Giants in a controlling 3-0 win.
The Bulls walked into the game sitting 4-0 in MCAL, tied with Redwood. Hoping to secure the number one seed, the Bulls had to put their best foot forward.
“Beating Redwood tomorrow, that’s pretty big. Because if we don’t, then it becomes a three-ways high for first. And we would come in third versus being first going into the semis and finals,” said team captain Elena Fisher ‘25.
Fisher dominated the Giants with her big spikes resulting in “boom” cheers from the student section.
“It gets you fired up,” said Fisher. “I love having my peers show out to support me and the team.”
In addition to Branson’s dominant offense, their defense led by Lauren Dignan ‘25 helped them solidify their blowout win.
“Since I’m like the libero of the team, I think it’s my job to just control the defense and just make sure that everyone’s aligning with the blocks since that can sometimes be complicated,” said Dignan, who is also an editor on The Blazer.
Controlling the defense is exactly what she did. Dignan had numerous insane digs, helping prevent the Giants from scoring.
On the offensive side, Lucy Tusher ‘27 was an impressive server, racking up multiple aces that elicited roaring cheers from the student section.
“She was incredible,” Fisher said of Tusher’s performance in the game. “She seems to be following in her sister Logan’s footsteps.”
Fisher added, “We have a lot of sophomores playing, so they’re a little bit young. They’ve improved a ton throughout the season, which has been awesome.”
The current season is looking very promising for the Bulls, and the seniors feel very optimistic about the future of the team.
“We’re obviously trying to make it as far as possible this season, but I feel really good about the future,” said Fisher. “We have a lot of younger players that are dominating the court … I’m excited to see what they can do.”
