After clinching the MCAL championship in 2024, Branson boys varsity basketball has returned to the court for the 2025 season with big goals and even bigger aspirations.
“We want to defend our MCAL title, win NCS and then go all the way to a state championship,” said Jordan Schomer ‘25. “We’ve built a strong foundation and we’re ready to take it further.”
Leading the charge for the Bulls is head coach Demetrius Roquemore, now in his second season with the team. Called a “player’s coach,” Roquemore has emphasized both skill development and team chemistry, creating a culture of hard work and unity.
“Coach D has a great style,” said Dino Panos ’25. “He pushes us to be our best while also bringing the team together through off-the-court activities like team dinners and watching games. It’s all about building chemistry.”
The Bulls have embraced their identity as a small school competing against larger programs, relying on teamwork, intensity and a commitment to outworking their opponents. Their current record of 13–9 and fourth-place standing in MCAL reflect their resilience, and they’re eager to improve as the season progresses.
“Our teamwork is our strength,” said Schomer. “It helps us overcome challenges and proves we can compete with anyone.”
The team’s roster features emerging players with talent, with their starters including Heath French ‘27, NJ Grey Jr. ‘27 and Tyler Wells ‘26. Chase Robertson ‘26 made headlines with his game, highlighted by an insane dunk against San Rafael that energized the home crowd and set the Bulls up for a 63–47 win.
“I’d say our star players are Chase and NJ,” said Schomer. “They bring leadership and help keep us focused on our goals.”
The season has already provided memorable moments, including a thrilling comeback victory against Pacifica Christian during a Las Vegas tournament. Down 15 points at halftime, the Bulls rallied to force overtime with a buzzer-beater and secured the win.
“That game showed what we’re capable of,” said Schomer. “It was a huge moment for the team.”
The Bulls are determined to carry this momentum forward. Despite a close loss to Redwood earlier this month, the team is looking forward to a rematch in the MCAL playoffs.
“We’re excited to face them again,” said Panos. “It was a loud, intense game, and we’re ready for a different outcome next time.”
As the Bulls prepare for their next matchup against Marin Catholic, they remain focused on their ultimate goals: repeating as MCAL champions, making a deep run in the North Coast Section playoffs and contending for a state title.
“You can expect us to end the season strong — and go Bulls!” said Schomer.
