Girls varsity basketball has already had a slew of success, including having won the Lady Mustang Tip-Off Classic.
Historically, the girls varsity basketball team has had a tradition of success in MCAL and NCS, but with the loss of eight seniors in 2023, and the loss of six seniors this coming year, the program will be in the hands of the underclassmen.
Regarding the team’s overwhelming amount of sickness and injury, Avery Myerberg ‘25, a team captain, said, “There is so much talent and resilience on this team, I am very hopeful for the future.”
Last season, the team struggled, ending with a losing record; but this year marks a major turnaround for the team. With a winning record already secured, the team is aiming to make a playoff run in the Marin County Athletic League playoffs and hopes to compete for a spot in North Coast Section and even State Championships, depending on their division.
Although Redwood and Marin Catholic remain the team’s toughest competition, Myerberg believes that, at full health, the team has what it takes to win against its toughest competition, including Marin Catholic who hasn’t lost an MCAL game in almost four years.
“It’ll take an almost perfect game,” Myerberg said.
A key to the team’s success this season has been the arrival of new head coach Bruce Pruiett, who has been a “game-changer,” according to Myerberg and Alyssa Huang ‘27, who is also the Blazer’s photo editor.
Myerberg explained that after last year’s unclear communication and organization, Pruiett has brought structure, consistency, and a new energy to the program.
“He cares so much about us,” said Huang. “He takes the pressure off, supports us in the weight room, and always has advice. We all really love and respect him.”
