#1 Comforts (335 San Anselmo Ave):
Comforts is a true classic that pretty much everyone loves. It’s part deli, part sit-down restaurant, and super convenient, whether you’re grabbing something quick before class or hanging out on a weekend. Their iced vanilla matcha lattes are a must-try in the morning, and the breakfast sandwiches are perfect if you’re running late. For lunch, the Chinese Chicken Salad and Chicken Okasan are always a good choice.
“I like the Chicken Okasan from Comforts. I always walk down after school to get it.” – Sophie Conte ’27
#2 M. H. Bread and Butter (101 San Anselmo Ave):
M.H. is the closest café to Branson, which makes it a go-to when you don’t want to walk far. The patio is a great spot to chill with friends, and the homemade pastries are next-level. Everything is made with fresh ingredients, so it has you covered if you’re looking for a heartier sit-down meal. Their Arnold Palmers are amazing, but if you’re craving a matcha or latte, Comforts or Coffee Roasters might be a better bet. That said, when it comes to convenience, M.H. definitely takes the win.
“I get the fried egg sandwich before school every day. It’s easy, delicious, and perfect for when I forget breakfast or just want a morning pick me up.” – Gabe Halbrecht ’27
#3 Marin Coffee Roasters (546 San Anselmo Ave):
If you are looking for some good coffee, Marin Coffee Roasters is the move. Their iced vanilla latte is my favorite, but they’ve got solid bagels and other breakfast options too. The vibe inside is super chill and is perfect for getting homework done. Overall, it’s a great spot if you’re looking for a mix of good drinks and a cozy place to focus.
#4 Barton’s Bagels (645 San Anselmo Ave):
Bartons has some of the best bagels in Marin, with a wide selection to choose from. They’re baked fresh every morning: warm, hearty and seriously delicious. The cinnamon sugar is my personal favorite, but the Nova Lox is a close second. Prices are pretty reasonable; just don’t forget: it’s cash-only. There can be a bit of a line, especially in the mornings, but it moves fast. It’s totally worth it for a quick, satisfying breakfast before school.
#5 Woodlands Market (735 College Ave):
Woodlands has a superior drink selection—from Poppi to kombucha to every fancy water brand you didn’t know existed. It’s open late, which makes it perfect for post-practice snacks (unlike Comforts, which shuts down at 5). The only downside is that it’s definitely on the pricey side. If you’re just looking for a quick bag of chips, Bolinas Market or the Snack Shack might be a better bet for you. That said, their sushi is surprisingly good and worth the splurge.
#6 Swirl San Anselmo (916 Sir Francis Drake Blvd):
Swirl is a little bit of a trek but definitely worth it if you’re craving frozen yogurt. It can get expensive depending on how much you load up, but they offer a great variety of flavors and toppings to customize your order. On the other hand, if you don’t mind driving a bit further, Mags in downtown Larkspur has frozen yogurt that’s arguably even better.
#7 Bolinas Avenue Market (4 Bolinas Ave):
Bolinas Market is the easiest go-to spot, right across from the St. Anselm parking lot. It’s clear they get a ton of Branson students coming through and for good reason. With a wide selection of candy, yerba mate and sodas, Bolinas is perfect when you want a snack that the Snack Shack doesn’t have.
“Sometimes after school, I feel low energy, and it’s nice to get a quick snack or energy drink that the Snack Shack selection lacks. Also, freshman year, that is where my parents would pick me up after school, so it is super convenient.” – Simone Schachter ’26
#8 Rio Rock Acai Cafe (860 College Ave, Unit C):
Rio Rock is the go-to spot for açaí bowls. They’re fresh, flavorful, and super satisfying. It’s a small, cute café with a cozy couch that makes it a nice place to hang out for a bit. Located right next to COM, it’s super convenient if you’ve got sports practice or a game there (though not really walkable from Branson). If you’re not in the mood for a bowl, their Nutella crepes are also a must-try.
“I love to go here with my friends when it’s warm out to eat açaí bowls and hang out.” – Sadie Briggs ’26
