On Sept. 18, Branson had its annual Back to School night for parents to get a glimpse into a day in the life at school.
The night begins with an opening address from Head of School Chris Mazzola. Then, parents attend their child’s classes in 10-minute intervals. This format allows parents to get a sense of their student’s schedule and to interact with their teachers. Some departments, such as Art, showcased student work.
“All the Visual Arts teachers decided we would put student art front and center,” Visual Arts teacher Allyson Seal said.
This focused the night around not just the classes the students have been taking, but the tangible results and outcomes of them. Seal, along with many other teachers, used the opportunity to talk about the nature of the class, expectations for the coming year, curriculum, and grading policies.
“I talked about the struggles and boons in the class,” Seal said.
This event also introduces parents to one another, creating valuable relationships for sharing information and support for their children throughout the school year.
“It’s a really warm, welcoming moment for all of us,” Seal said.
