Whether recording a day in the life, posting weekly staff and faculty spotlights or keeping students up to date on the latest sports games, the social media team at Branson has been hard at work maintaining our school’s digital presence. The student social media interns are constantly finding new ways to improve Branson’s social media image, creating a platform for cross-grade connection and a genuine look into the community.
“As a social media intern, I’m tasked with figuring out how to maximize Branson’s social media presence and figuring out ways to enhance Branson’s social media[…] Personally, I’m in charge of the staff and faculty spotlights once a week,” said Charley Goldstein ‘26.
She also mentioned how, in addition to these specific roles, the interns all learn crucial skills in social media, such as graphic design and analytics.
Sadie Briggs ‘26 and also an intern, talked about the different courses that the new head of social media, Sahara Portlance, has offered for the interns.
“She really caters to what we want to learn. If people are interested in video editing, we’ll do that for whatever week, and we’ll do a course on video editing. It’s really what you make of it and what you’re interested in. We have a lot of creative freedom, which is awesome,” Briggs said.
She also spoke of the benefit of collaborating with other interns, as they can combine their interests and specialties for a well-rounded project. Briggs said that it’s a great opportunity to learn from her peers and connect with them further.
Student connection has always been a top priority for the Branson community, and in a time when social media has become a main source of communication, it’s crucial that Branson’s social media presence is accessible and engaging. The social media interns are keeping this in mind as they create new, creative content about Branson life for all to enjoy. Goldstein said that a large goal of the interns’ has become connection.
“Whether it’s freshmen or incoming eighth graders that are looking at Branson, we’re trying to make the Instagram a place where they can go to see what Branson and campus life are like,” she said.
Throughout the year, the interns have been diligently working toward rebranding Branson’s social media presence, and plan to add even more exciting content as the year progresses. They are brainstorming ideas to make their account more appealing to viewers and help make everyone feel connected to the Branson community. Briggs, a former arts ambassador, spoke of her excitement for creating content about the arts, such as theater productions, the Festival of the Arts at Branson, and the winter concert.
Goldstein highly recommends the program to anyone interested in joining, and highlighted its importance.
“Now more than ever, social media is important in our world and it’s a big part of a school’s image, and as a social media intern, I’ve really enjoyed learning how to cultivate the image of a brand, whether it be a school or an organization or anything else. That’s a really important life skill, especially if you want to go into media of any sorts… knowing how to create social media brands is really important and so is learning how to utilize your social media presence,” Goldstein said.
